Follow me! This is a phrase used by the greatest leader of all time, yes! The greatest, Jesus Christ is by far the most influential leader there ever was. His teachings are replicated all over the world, even by some to pursue different things from what He was about. Three years of his life had an impact that transcends two millennia, and here’s a glimpse into his leadership techniques.

What made Jesus extraordinary?
Vision Casting
Jesus’ vision of saving the lost was crystal clear, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men,”. His vision to turn 12 people into men fishers was crisp and clear and out there from the get-go. He envisioned 12 men transforming lives for God. His mission was too big to be achieved alone and he knew to teach others to teach others on it. He embodied this vision, it was not just spoken, I would say lived and breathed it, he died for it. Every team member was clear on what they were following and what was to be. He inspired them how to actualize the vision through teaching and healing. He got his twelve disciples to not only buy into this vision but to embrace it even in the face of adversity. Wow! What a casting!
Why would someone follow you?
Investing In Relationships
Jesus picked a team and poured himself into them strategically. Note that Jesus had numerous followers, remember how he fed the five thousand people who were following him? And being the patriarchal period where women were not counted, we are talking of significant numbers here. Jesus was able to still invest in the twelve, fostering deep relationships. This intentional investment bore global fruits, it is unmistakable all around the world. Christianity is the most widely spread religion in the world, embraced by over 2 billion followers. His outpouring of himself to these 12 men created vision champions.

Empowering Others
Jesus saw potential in his followers, though seemingly unlikely to succeed in the eyes of society because they had not achieved the highest education, he saw beyond their transcripts. He spoke greatness into them, calling out what they could be and this caused his disciples to see beyond their failures. He performed great miracles and assured them that they would surpass his achievements. He sent them out to exercise this authority and continued to teach them and empower them. His focus was on the vision, not self.

Leadership Beyond Titles
One of the things that I have recently learned is that leadership is not a title and every connection makes you an influencer. With this in mind, you can choose to lead and influence intentionally. Learn from Jesus, whose pursuit wasn’t fame but restoring the God-man relationship. I have found Jesus to be a great study for anyone interested in growing their leadership scope. Embrace intentional leadership and leave a lasting impact.
